You'd have a username and password for the NVR to keep it secure. No need to go crazy and port forward each camera.

If you went with a NVR then you'd only need to port forward the RTSP port for the video stream and the remote port for the Android or iPhone software to connect back to. If you don't go for the NVR I would do the following:įor inside the network I would setup a profile in your software for internal LAN addresses/ports (if different than port 80) and also setup a second profile for external access via the ddns address and ports. Make sure that the IP cameras you are using now are compatible with the NVR or protocol being used in the NVR. I would highly recommend a NVR (network video recorder) to capture and store video if you need to pull it up in the future. I remember older routers allowing this in some instances, however I can't find an exact reason as to why this feature was removed but I can assure you it hasn't worked for a while on consumer equipment. I appreciate the help trying to get this working. I hope the above helps answer your questions. However, if my phone is on LTE (ie, not my home wifi), I can access both Comcast external ip:yyyy and :yyyy to access the camera. Same thing with :yyyy.įrom my phone, I can access 10.xxx:yyyy to see the camera while on my home wifi.įrom my phone, I cannot access Comcast external ip:yyyy to see the camera while on my home wifi. This may be the key to getting this working.įrom my computer, I can access 10.xxx:yyyy to see the camera.įrom my computer, I cannot access Comcast external ip:yyyy to see the camera.

So I don't think I am trying to loop back to myself.įirewall exception for local requests- I am not sure how to find this out. I can have all computers turned off and they still work. The device that is acting as a server for the cameras- I think the cameras themselves are the server. I know just enough about port forwarding to be dangerous.
